Hidden Text
Text on a web page which is visible to search engine spiders but not visible to human visitors (e.g. the text is the same or very similar color as the background of the web page, extremely small font is used, usage of multiple TITLE tags, the text in HTML comment, etc.). As this technique could artificially increase the relevancy of the web sites and was abused in the past it's treated as spam on most search engines.
Hit
In popular web hosting stats such as webalizer, the word "hit" is used to describe a single request made by a web browser. Hits are often confused with page views - most people don't understand that when one page is viewed several hits on the server can take place. For instance each GIF or image that loads counts as a hit.
Host
A host is the company who actually provides the hardware, servers, backbone connections, backup system etc, where your web site is housed. It is their job to make sure your web site is available to site visitors on the world wide web around the clock. It is what you pay the monthly fee for. Also called domain host or web host.
Hosting Plan
Web hosts offer hosting plans to their clients which contain a specific set of features and services at a set price. Hosting plans vary among web hosts and a web host may offer many different hosting plans to fit the needs of their clients.
HotBot
One of the larger search engines. Powered by Inktomi. New submissions two weeks or longer to appear. The URL is http://www.hotbot.com/.
Hotlink
A hotlink is a clickable word, phrase or icon which will connect you to a selected website, or another page in the same website, also called a hyperlink.
HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol
Stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol, the protocol by which HTML files move across the Internet. HTTP requires a client browser and an HTTP server (typically a Web server).
Hub
A common connection point for devices in a network.
