Peace, Love, Websites...
May 25, 2004

Everybody has one- your grandma, your carpet cleaner, your hairstylist, and your smelly 12 year-old neighbor. What could all these people have in common? They have joined the World Wide Web and created a website. But if you are still wondering what would motivate them to do so and how you can get in on the fun, read on.
The Motivation
When you break it down there are basically two reasons people build websites: 1) to share information and ideas and 2) to make money. These two causes are the motivation behind all webites.

To better categorize the purposes and uses of websites, the hosting community has split up websites into three categories: personal use websites (for the smelly neighbor), business websites (for the carpet guy), and non-profit websites (for your grandma's senior citizen center).

Computer Geeks Share the Joy
By examining these three categories of websites we may learn why people build websites and how the World Wide Web can be a useful tool for many people. Not just the computer nerds! Read on to learn about the basic types of websites, the web hosts who host them, real-life scenarios, and what you could do with a website.
